Jan Stevens CBE

Independent Consultant , Former Chief Nurse now

Janice Stevens has had an extensive and varied NHS career, with roles at all levels of the NHS. Beginning as an A&E nurse and undertaking a range of clinical, managerial and change management roles, including becoming a trust executive director of nursing, Ms Stevens eventually reported to England’s chief nursing officer working for six years at the Department of Health to successfully design and implement three high-profile programmes: reducing MRSA by 80% and C.difficile by 60% and elimination of mixed-sex accommodation. After 18 months working independently with clinicians, managers and Boards in over 30 organisations, she became managing director of Health Education West Midlands. This role has offered a real opportunity to positively impact on patient care with a refreshed focus on NHS education, training and workforce development. Janice was awarded a CBE in 2010 and was named by Nursing Times as one of the most influential nurse leaders. She has recently held interim chief nurse posts at Barts Health and Worcester Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.
